What is Anaesthesiology

Home / Patients / What is Anesthesiology

It is not already easy to start treatment for erectile disorders because of the pressure and the gene, it is even less easy when there is a lot of information to take into account before starting. It's not a common treatment, so make sure you have all the key in hand so you don't have any nasty surprises when you start your treatment.

Anaesthesiology is a medical specialty that allows patients to be operated on painlessly while their vital body functions are monitored.

Anaesthesia can be achieved by various methods, and you do not need to be asleep to have a painless operation. Basically, there are two types of anaesthesia, one in which it is as if you were asleep (General anaesthesia), and another, in which only part of the body, including the area to be operated, will be asleep (regional or local anaesthesia) while you are awake or half-awake, but calm and sometimes oblivious to your surrounds (sedation).

The anaesthesiology and resuscitation specialist (anaesthesiologist) is entrusted with monitoring you, giving you anaesthesia and guaranteeing that you feel totally comfortable in the operating theatre during surgery. This specialist will recommend the most suitable type of anaesthesia in your case, depending on your scheduled surgery and associated conditions (any diseases that you may have).

All surgery involves a potential risk. There are two kinds.

  1. The risk of the actual surgery, which your surgeon will explain to you.
  2. The risk of anaesthesia: Anaesthesia is now a reasonably safe procedure, and every year millions of people all over the world are operated and anaesthetised without any complications whatsoever. However, certain factors, such as the type of surgery, the type of anaesthesia required, transfusion, the patient's physical condition, etc, mean that the coverage of the risk must be tailored to the specific case. This risk will be carefully assessed by your anaesthesiologist, who will perform the relevant verificiations. He or she will then prepare a healthcare plan for you and will inform you of the most suitable type of anaesthesia for you.

If you need medication, the anaesthesiologist will prescribe it for you either a few days before the operation or on the day of surgery.
