Welcome to the website of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Treatment (DARYD) of the Hospital Universitario Quirón Dexeus.
The different sections of these pages will tell you who we are, what we do and how we do it.
I will explain the structure of the Department, its team of anaesthesiologists, the different areas, and will also give you some detailed information about the techniques we apply, so that you, our future patients or interns, can learn more about them and about the different aspects of Anaesthesiology.
Our daily work is underpinned, as it has always been, by three cornerstones: healthcare, science and teaching. I shall address each concept briefly.
Welfare requirements have grown dramatically in the new Centre, and there are now 150 beds available for patient admission, 50% more than in the old Institute Dexeus. Focussing on anaesthetic coverage, we provide assistance to 6 main operating theatres where, except for organ transplantation, all surgical specialities are covered, including paediatric heart surgery, haemodynamics, outpatient operating theatres and an annexed kidney lithotripsy operating theatre, the Digestive Department, with two gastroscopy and colonoscopy rooms, the Obstetrics Department, with 4 labour rooms and 2 operating theatres for Casaerean sections, the IVF Room with a sedation room and the Radiodiagnostic Department for paediatric magnetic resonance. Coverage is also provided for pre-op examinations in the morning and in the afternoon, and the visits and procedures carried out by the Pain Clinic and the treatment/control of patients admitted to the Resuscitation Room, as well as in-ward postoperative pain treatment. Thus, it is clear that our daily healthcare burden is challenging, as befits a reference centre such as the Teaching Hospital. Another core area of our Department comprises the scientific and academic tasks of the anaesthesiologists working in it. Research, the development of new techniques, attendance at scientific congresses, the presentation of communications, the publication of articles in specialised magazines and the regular organisation of courses dealing with topics of interest in Anaesthesiology are all standing Departmental objectives that enjoy staunch Management backing. Proof of the appreciation and acknowledgement of our work beyond our walls takes the form of continuous requests from all over the country and from further afield from numerous anaesthesiologists who wish to complete their training in the different areas of their specialty here with us.
Finally, the third axis around which our activity pivots is teaching, perhaps the most important area, and one that calls for the greatest responsibility.
We have amassed 25 years of experience in this utterly exciting and rewarding field, namely the training of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation specialists. We are the only private clinic in Spain with teaching capacity fully approved by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, and it is an area in which we have made a major effort over the years.
Thus, I earnestly trust that all the information provided on this website helps both future patients and potential interns to learn more about the way we we work and to choose our centre, either for treatment or as a place to learn.
